Rose Garden Arena : Home of Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers play their home games at the Rose Garden, a multipurpose arena located in Portland’s Rose Quarter, northeast of downtown. The Rose Garden opened on October 12, 1995 and can seat a total of 19980 spectators for basketball games, capacity increases to 20580 with standing room.
As in case of the team, the Rose Garden is also owned by Paul Allen through subsidiary Vulcan Sports and Entertainment and managed by Global Spectrum. Between 2005 and 2007, it was owned by a consortium of creditors who financed its construction after the Oregon Arena Corporation, a now-defunct holding company owned by Allen filed for bankruptcy in 2004.
Before 1995, the Trail Blazers home venue was the Memorial Coliseum, which stands adjacent to the Rose Garden. This facility, built in 1960, can seat 12888 spectators for basketball. The Rose Garden is the primary indoor sports arena in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is suitable for large indoor events of all types, including basketball, ice hockey, rodeos, conventions, ice shows, concerts and dramatic productions. The arena is equipped with the latest acoustics and other amenities.
It is owned by Vulcan Inc, a holding company owned by Paul Allen and managed by Global Spectrum. The primary tenant is the Portland Trail Blazers. Additionally, the Rose Garden is a popular venue for concerts and other artistic productions. The arena structure encloses over 785,000 square feet on eight levels, five of which are open to the public. The building is 140 feet tall from the event floor to the pinnacle of the saddle-shaped roof. Also included are 60 feet by 40 feet permanent stage and 200 feet by 85 feet ice rink.
The arena has a total of over 14000 permanent seats arranged in two bowls. An additional 1540 permanent seats are found in the arena’s 70 skyboxes. Prior to the 1998 NBA season, the capacity was reduced to 19980 from the original 21400 spectators. Numerous other events such as concerts, monster trucks and circuses are hosted in the arena. The seating below the skyboxes, known as the lower level, is further divided into the 100 and 200 levels. The upper bowl seats, above the skyboxes, are the 300 level. Skyboxes include amenities such as a wet bar, catering, a private restroom, multiple television monitors and a sound system. The arena also features modular party suites, which can be configured either as a pair of 44-person Super Suites or as one 88-person mega suite.
