The US Airways Center is a sports and entertainment arena located in Phoenix, Arizona. It opened in 1992, and is home to the Phoenix Suns of the NBA, the Phoenix Mercury of the Women’s National Basketball Association, the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League and the Phoenix Roadrunners of the ECHL.

Named after its sponsor, US Airways, the arena is located down the street from Chase Field. In addition to basketball, arena football and ice hockey, concerts, professional wrestling, ice shows and other events are also conducted here. A common nickname for the arena is “The Purple Palace” though during the Rattlers’ season it is known as “the Snake Pit”.

Three of the games of the 1993 NBA Finals between the Suns and the Chicago Bulls were played there. In 1997, the Rattlers won ArenaBowl XI at America West Arena. The NBA All-Star Game was played at the arena in 1995 and it has also been names as the location for the 2009 NBA All-Star Game.

In 2003, the arena hosted WWE SummerSlam and WWE Judgement Day in 2006. apart from sports events, many singers and musical acts, such as Van Halen, Laura Pausini, Bon Jovi, Beyoncé Knowles, Destiny's Child, Chris Brown, Puff Daddy, Janet Jackson, dc Talk, Shakira, Metallica, Barbra Streisand, Vikki Carr, Amy Grant, Britney Spears, REO Speedwagon, *NSYNC, The Backstreet Boys, Green Day, Blink 182, Gwen Stefani, Cher, Vicente Fernandez, Maná and others have performed at the arena.

US Airways Arena hosted WWE Monday Night Raw on March 5, 2007, it’s first return to the Phoenix area in two years. WWE came back on February 25, 2008 for a SmackDown/ECW television taping for Monday Night Raw.

Designed by architect, Ellerbe Becket, the US Airways Arena has had many tenants, some of the prominent ones being:

The seating capacity of the arena is 18422 for basketball and 16210 for hockey.
