The Amway Arena was opened in 1989 and has been the home to Orlando Magic since their inception. Originally, it was known as the Orlando Arena, or the “O-Rena”, during its first ten years. The naming rights were purchased by TD Waterhouse and named the venue the TD Waterhouse Centre in 1999. In December 2006, Amway purchased the naming rights for four years. Amway Arena is one of “The Orlando Venues” owned and operated by the City of Orlando.

It is an indoor arena in Orlando, Florida and a part of the Orlando Centroplex, a sports and entertainment complex located in downtown Orlando. Amway Arena is home to the Orlando Magic of the NBA, Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League and starting in the fall of 2007, it will also be home to the Orlando Sharks of the Major Indoor Soccer League. The PlayStation Pro event on the Dew Action Sports Tour and the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus are also hosted annually, along with various concerts and other events.

Some of the common events hosted at the Amway Arena include major concerts, professional sports, championship games, high school graduations, traveling entertainment groups, major political rallies, special events. The past and present tenants include Orlando Magic (NBA) (1989-Present), Orlando Predators (AFL) (1991-Present). Orlando Sharks (MISL) (2007-present), Orlando Miracle (WNBA) (1999–2002), Orlando Solar Bears (IHL) (1995–2001), Orlando Seals (ACHL/WHA2) (2002–2004).

The seating capacity of the arena is 17519 for basketball, 15924 for arena football, 15948 for ice hockey, 15788 for circus, 16882 for ice skating, 17740 for concert end stage and 18039 for concert center stage.

On September 29, 2006, it was announced to build a new arena in downtown Orlando, Orlando Events Center. The new 18500-seat arena will be located at the southwest corner of Church Street and Hughey Avenue, with construction starting in early 2008 and costing an estimate of $480 million. The Magic are anticipating that it will be completed prior to the 2010-2011 regular season opener.

The design for the Orlando events Center was displayed at Amway Arena, during the Magic home game against the Atlanta Hawks, on December 10, 2007, with an official press release next day.
